Find a model that has a an in-real-time hazard avoidance feature that allows you to avoid hitting objects in your house. Other important aspects include cleaning performance, the level of noise and mapping capabilities.
1. Roomba j7+ iRobot self-emptying robot vacuum
Robot vacuums are time-saving, but they may have issues if a toy becomes stuck in their wheels. The machine will shut off in the event of this happening. iRobot Combo J7+, however, attempts to prevent that, making it our first robot to mop. It's the best in its class at cleaning and navigating different types of floors.
The navigation system of the j7+ uses the forward-facing camera and lasers to see obstacles like furniture legs or power cords that could block its path. It also recognizes the type of surface, which helps it choose the best vacuum mop for dog hair cleaning method for each area. This translates to improved performance on different flooring types, including pet hair and other debris that tends stick to carpets with low piles.
In our test the j7+ did well on unfinished floors, picking up 97.3 percent of a Cheerios-strewn floor, and beating out the Roborock S4 Max and Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid, but not quite reaching their ideal scores for cereal pickup. It was pretty good on carpets with low piles as well, but it struggled to climb onto high-pile and was more likely to skim the surface rather than dig into it.
Contrary to other robot vacuums that empty at the base of the unit the j7+ automatically emptys within the dock. You can set a timer to when it will empty itself or manually initiate an empty with a single press of a button. iRobot has also made the dock smaller and less bulky which allows for more spaces in your home where you can keep it in between cleaning.
The j7+ costs more than the Roomba i4 vacuum alone, but has a lot of additional functionality. It's the best robot we've seen in avoiding obstacles, and it has superior brushes for edge-sweeping, mops and dual multi-surface rubber brushes, and more efficient navigation. It's also backed by iRobot's Pet Owner's Official Promise: The manufacturer promises to replace any unit that doesn't avoid solid pet waste. We believe the j7+ is worth the extra expense, especially in the case of pets and have a busy or messy living space.
2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid
The elegant RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a good choice that checks all the right boxes for a robotic vacuum cleaner. It has a high battery performance and is able to clean on a regular basis and comes with improved technology, such as multiple map options and LIDAR scanning. It can be used to mop hardwood floors and its twin-turbine technology automatically adjusts the suction according to the type of surface.
In comparison to the previous robot vacuums, it's an improvement in terms of design and features. It still looks similar to other robots on the market (round, shallow and with lots of sharp edges) however, it comes with elegant bronze accents that provide it with a more luxurious appearance.
The X8 features a simple user interface and an attractive app for iOS and Android. The interface is clear and well-performing, making it easy to navigate and makes it enjoyable to use day-in and day-out. It comes with unique features, such as the ability to block off areas that you don't want to clean. You can also send it anywhere within the map of your home by pressing.
It can be activated manually by pressing the big play button or you can assign it to a particular area or room using an intuitive box system. You can also utilize voice control with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to start a cleaning job should you prefer. The mopping pad is not included however you can purchase a microfiber cloth and a small water container to fit the device.
It was an absolute pleasure to see how fast and efficiently the X8 removed pet hairs and dirt off hard floors. It was equally impressive on carpets with high piles and bare floors. This makes it a multi-purpose tool. The roller brush can become clogged up with hair. A quick lift of the comb and a quick cut with scissors can clear this.
The X8 is backed by a two-year warranty and comes with a convenient charging dock. The X8 requires four hours to fully charge.
3. ILIFE V3s Pro
The ILIFE V3s Pro is a robotic vacuum cleaner that has an eye on hair from pets. It is a tangle-free vacuum that doesn't use brushes that can clog up with hair clumps. This ensures that your pet's hair does not get trapped inside the machine, and that it is effectively removed from the floor. The V3s Pro also has a slim design and self-charges automatically, adding to its impressive list of features.
The V3s Pro scored highly in our tests because of its suction that is tangle-free. It collected all pet hair we placed on the floor without it getting tangled up or caught in the machine. It was also capable of picking up some of the hair pieces that were larger than I put on the floor, something other machines couldn't do. The ILIFE V3s Pro is also extremely adept at maneuvering through tiny spaces. Its low profile makes it easy to move under sofas and beds.
It's not without flaws. The V3s Pro, like most budget robot vacuums, isn't capable of picking up dirt from carpets and high-pile rugs. It can only get so close to a knot of rugs and hairs before they are removed and its side brush and suction weren't powerful enough to break up crumbles of mud that had been stepped on.
That said, the ILIFE V3s Pro is still an excellent budget option when you're looking for a low-cost pet-friendly robot vacuum. Its battery lasts for more than two hours and it is programmable to clean at times you'll be away from home. It has a dust bin of 300ml that can store more debris than Roomba 675, and doesn't have to be cleaned as often. It also is compatible with Alexa and Google Assistant, making it easier to use than ever. If you're interested in giving it a try, you can buy the ILIFE V3s Pro on Amazon for $160. It's not a top-of-the-line vacuum, but with more than 11,000 5-star reviews, it's got to be doing something right.
4. Deebot X2 Omni
The X2 Omni provides more than just great cleaning performance - it also has innovative navigation features that make it one of the most intelligent robot vacuum cleaners for pet hair. With an integrated dual-laser LiDAR navigation system (similar to the technology that is used in self-driving cars), the X2 Omni can create a 3D map of its surroundings, allowing it to avoid obstacles and ensure thorough coverage. The X2 Omni, thanks to its True Detect 3D technology 2.0 can also detect pet waste or the charging of a phone within its vicinity and then move in accordance with the detected objects.
The Deebot X2 Omni can clean either your carpets or hardwood floors simultaneously and allows you to select between the power of a powerful vacuum or a swift mop depending on your preference. The X2 Omni lets you to mop and vacuum at the same time or vacuum first, then mop. This gives you the maximum flexibility when it comes to cleaning your floors.
Another useful feature that you won't see often in robotic vacuums is the ability to set up no-go zones, which lets you block your robovac from entering certain areas of your home. If it's the kids in your bedroom or your dog's favorite place to nap, you can use the X2 Omni application to create virtual boundaries around these areas and ensure that your robot only focuses on the areas you'd like cleaned.
If you prefer to operate your robovac hands-free, the upgraded YIKO 2.0 voice assistant can take commands like "talk back" commands, command modifications like "move forward and clean here" and advanced scheduling commands like "schedule for 10am every Saturday". It also works with third-party smart hubs, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant so you can easily integrate your existing system.
If the price tag of the X2 Omni doesn't seem to be what you're seeking There are other options available that offer good cleaning performance and smart navigation for less. The $399 Deebot Neo is a basic vacuum cleaner without navigational smarts. The T20 Omni On the contrary, doesn't include mapping capabilities and is a more affordable alternative for those who want to mop floors.
